I can’t stop looking at this painting. Jesus Through the Eyes of Peter…
How did Peter get here?
He had stepped out of the boat with great faith! We see in the Scriptures that Peter walked right towards Jesus and was very close to Him when suddenly, the reality set in.
“I should not be able to walk on water. This is a crazy bad storm. What in the world am I doing??”
We do this, don’t we?
We step out in moments of great faith and then we suddenly fear that what we have said yes to is impossible. Nothing has changed, except our perception. Our eyes begin to glance away from being focused on Jesus to the threats of a storm that is raging.
In these moments, I want to be the kind of woman who grabs the wrist of Jesus instead of sinking. The kind of woman who says, “This is insane. How am I walking on water? Look at this storm. Somehow you are doing this in me, and through me, but Jesus, this is crazy! I am scared!”
He can handle our honesty. He invites it. And He wants to continue to build our faith until the impossible seems natural to us. Let’s get our eyes back on the truth instead of what we perceive.
Let’s grip Him in the times when our circumstances look impossible and our faith is shaken to the core. Let’s have the faith that says, “I already walked this far from the boat. He’s gotten me this far!”
After all, He invited Peter to come to Him. He is trustworthy and only asks us to follow Him by relying on His divine strength to walk on water, not ours.
